Discussion Questions

1. The book I read was very difficult for me to read because I couldn't relate to the character very well. I have traveled to Italy, and I enjoyed reading that part of the book, but I couldn't relate to the whole meditation/inner peace/searching for love stuff. I probably will when I am older though.
2. I was happy with my book choice because I learned a lot about the world that I didn't know. For example, I didn't know much about Bollywood but I do now.
3. The place in the book that I found most intriguing were Rome and Venice. I feel this way because when the author wrote about them, I could draw from my own memories.
4. The author explores the central idea of happiness. She leaves her depression in Italy, meditates in India, and finds a new love in Indonesia. She seeks happiness the entire book, in herself, her faith, and in others.
5. I learned how to make a blog, sharing my life with the cyber world here I come! Just kidding. I learned about Bollywood, which I very much like. I think I might have to see Slumdog Millionaire now.
6. The most enjoyable part of this project for me was finding phrases to change in Italian, finding pictures, and finding quotes. I liked it because Italian is a beautiful language and when I would try to say it, it would sound French. French-Italian is funny sounding. I liked the pictures because it was fun to look at places that i haven't seen before. I liked the quotes because I like accumulating lots of quotes.
7. The most dificult part of this project was reading the book. Sometimes I felt like the author wrote dryly and it was hard for me to concentrate on reading it.

It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right. I hope you had the time of your life.

In Bali *ladies and gentlemen please pause for a drumroll* I have found love.
This city is so magical and the people are lovely. I have explored and searched across Europe, India, and Indonesia for happiness and I have truely found it. I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life. From eating in Italy to praying in India and loving in Indonesia (that sounds like a good book title, right?) I have found true happiness. I've asked my soul, and my stomach, what truely makes it happy, and I have found it. I'm heading home soon, unfortunately I can't avoid it, but I know that through my travels to all these magical places that I am a new person. The old me is still there, but the new me is happier. I can't help but smile when I wake up. And you know what? That's all I really need.

Bali!

I've wanted to live in Hollywood all my life, but after spending just a few hours in Bali, I'd much rather have less to do with L.A. and more to do with Bollywood. Bali is so rich and vibrant and full of colors! It's a beautiful place to see. The people know how to express themselves; through art. More specifically, the amazing Bollywood movies. The women are gorgeous and what impresses me the most is that in Bollywood movies, kissing and most touching is frowned upon. This is so impressive because in the US, let's face it, sex sells. I wish American movies could be as classy as their Bollywood counterparts. The culture here is so rich and alive, I want to stay for as long as possible, especially because of the people I've met. More on that later though, I must leave some things a mystery.

Indonesia!

Dear whoever is reading this,
If you are ever struggling to find inner peace, I highly reccomend staying at an Ashram in India. Although I am not fully at peace with myself, I have learned much about myself through this experience. Now, I am traveling around India and I would just like to say that the people here are so at peace with themselves. It is quite amazing. The women pray and meditate together and so do the men. Everyone seems to know what their purpose is, and I LOVE IT! I wish I could live as peacefully as these people do. It would make America a much better place.

Meditation.

"Meditation brings wisdom; lack of meditation leaves ignorance."-Buddha

Meditation. Om. Om. Om.
Just reading it is boring, right? Imagine doing it! I'm staying in an Indian Ashram and meditation is recquired for an hour everyday. I usually give up and want to cry. My brain is so cluttered that I can't focus on...focusing. Seems oxymoronic, right? RIGHT. Well, we shall see how it goes. Especially since I am going to be here for a month anyway. Once I finish my chores, I am going to get right back to meditating. Wish me luck. Rather, wish my inner peace.

India, here I come!

Sicily!

"Without seeing Sicily one cannot get a clear idea of what Italy is."-Goethe

Sicily, my last stop in the beautiful and happy land of Italia! Sicily...well Sicily isn't a very pretty place. It is sad, sadder than I could've ever imagined. The Mafia has been running things here for many centuries. Poverty is everywhere. The only thing that seems happy...you guessed it! The food! The food is the most wonderful concoction of seafood and Italian dishes. I've had the most amazing food here, which says something based on the way I have been eating! In my stay in Italy, I have gained a whopping 25 lbs. I reccomend each and everyone of you visits Italy one day, just remember to bring a pair of fat pants.

the Red, the Fat, and the Beautiful

MY BOLOGNA HAS A FIRST NAME! ITS P-R-E-T-T-Y!

Buon Appetito! There is no English equivalent to this, unfortunately, but it is the only way I can think to describe the food here. IT. IS. AMAZING. Bolognese sauce laughs at other pasta sauces. Bologna is just a happy city where I can't help but sing. Next, I'm going to Parma and Montepulciano...who knew so many Italian cities are given food named after them?

Venice!

You know what you get when you put a city on water?

Venice!

Venice is a beautiful, dark, rainy town built completely on water. All three days that I've been here so far have been raining, but gorgeous. I've had some of the best pizza I've ever had in my life, I don'y know why Americans even bother attempting to make pizza. I've ridden on a gondala and I've seen glass blowing. It is pretty cool to see. Did you know that Venice sinks an inch every year?

il resto di Roma

While in Rome, of course I visited the Parthenon. Who wouldn't?! I love it, it is so beautiful and historic!

Another thing I love seeing is the Augusteum. It is glorious even though some people would just say it is a pile of rocks. It is one of the quietest and lonely places in all of Rome. Rome just builds up around it, one inch a year in debris. It is beautiful and reminds myself that even through all the dirt, literally, something can still be beautiful and revered. A life lesson? Why, yes, I believe it is.

Ehi, fai quel che vuoi, ma io sono ancora a Roma.

Hey, do whatever you want, but I'm still Rome.
Valentinos, Guccis, Armanis, Rubbens, Tennyson, Stendhal, Balzac, Liszt, Wagner, Thackery, Byron, Keats. I'm in a city where so many greats have lived and worked. Rome is a brilliant city full of delightful history. I've been through the Piazza del Popolo, the Piazza Borghese, and one of my favorite places, Tiber. The Piazza del Popolo was carved in honor of Queen Christina of Sweden, and right next door is a beautiful church, like there are many in Rome, with beautiful paintings. The Piazza Borghese is a gorgeous building that has kept many famous tenants, including Napoleon's scandalous sister, Pauline. And finally, Tiber. Tiber is a wonderful, swampy island. Although I have only been here for two days, I can tell that I'm going to very much love this ancient, yet beautiful city of Rome.
